CNN —Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas don’t agree on much. Hamas is demanding Israel withdraw all its troops from Gaza and release vast numbers of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. Phase one would see a six-week pause in fighting, during which civilian hostages would be released; three Palestinian prisoners would be freed for each one. Yet even without Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, Netanyahu would still have the numbers in cabinet to push a hostage deal through. And even if he didn’t, opposition leader Yair Lapid says he’d step in to support the prime minister on this issue.

On Monday Axios reported Israel had proposed a two-month truce in exchange for the release of all the 100-plus hostages still held in Gaza. The sticking point there appears to be that Hamas wants a “package deal” which would include a second-phase agreement to end the war. For now, though, such talk remains moot, with an Israeli official telling CNN there’s no concrete deal on the table. “But at the same time we can’t gamble on the future of Israel [by leaving Hamas in control of Gaza]. Any deal Israel is looking to seal, says Ziv, would be more likely to come into effect once the Khan Younis operation is complete.

Jerusalem CNN —Four people were killed and at least four more were wounded in shootings near the settlement of Eli in the West Bank, Israeli authorities and emergency services said Tuesday. The four wounded were taken to hospitals in Jerusalem or Petach Tikva, the Magen David Adom rescue service said. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said terrorists had opened fire near a gas station and that one of them had been neutralized by a civilian. Israeli troops were pursuing additional suspects and have set up roadblocks in the area, the IDF said. The IDF confirmed that four civilians had been killed and said “a number of civilians” were injured.

CNN —Israeli forces killed the suspected gunmen who shot dead a British-Israeli mother and two of her daughters last month, Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Richard Hecht told CNN Thursday. They were among at least three Palestinian men killed in the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, authorities said. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement that at least two people were already dead when they arrived at a hospital in Nablus. Amid the IDF incursion, the municipality of Nablus announced school start times would be postponed to 9 a.m. local time for the safety of students. More to come.
